About Trailblazer

Animals living in our community are our responsibility.

We began in 2024 as a WhatsApp group of concerned citizens who wanted to help animals in need, bringing together those who care for community animals and those willing to support their care.

As our work grew, so did our impact across Mormugao Taluka, Goa, an area experiencing rapid urbanisation and loss of green cover. This has led to more dogs, cats, and cattle moving onto streets and a rise in human animal conflict, making compassionate intervention more important than ever.

Today, Trailblazer is a registered Section 8 nonprofit, run by a board of citizen volunteers. We work through a grassroots network of caregivers and feeders, in partnership with local veterinarians, NGOs, and shelters, acting as a bridge between animals in need and timely, coordinated care, and building a community where every life is valued and protected.

Our Area of Work

We operate a free ambulance and rescue van, transporting injured and critically sick street animals safely to nearby veterinary facilities or shelters.

Through our citizen network, we facilitate on-site care and vaccination for street animals under veterinary guidance, ensuring timely and accessible treatment.

In partnership with NGOs, we support ethical birth control programs to manage street animal populations and promote healthier, more stable communities.

We enable adoption of abandoned or orphaned animals being cared for by community members, helping them find safe, loving, and permanent homes.

Stories of Hope

Every life you see here was once waiting for help. A small act of care changed their life forever. Be a part of the next story.

One evening, a call reached us from the Dabolim area about a dog in terrible condition. Her skin was rotting, and pus covered her face and body, even near her eyes. She was in immense pain, and it was hard to look at her suffering.

Our team rushed to her side, and after consulting a veterinarian, we began treatment on site. Every day, she received careful attention, medicine, and gentle care. Slowly, over three months, her strength returned, her skin healed, and her spirit brightened. When she was healthy and strong, we ensured she was sterilized so she could continue to live a safe and happy life.

Today, she is healthy, beautiful, and full of life.

In Story of Hope - Dog Skin Recovery

Piku is the lone survivor of her litter. She was just three weeks old, her eyes barely open, when she and her siblings were dumped at a fish market. Their tiny bodies were covered in fungal infection, and without their mother’s milk, they had no way to survive.

When a volunteer reached out, we first tried finding space in NGOs and shelters. But every place was full, and no one could take them in. We had to step forward. A foster home was arranged. There were endless vet visits, bottle feeding every two hours through the night, warmth from heat pads, and constant care to keep them going. Soon, they were diagnosed with fading kitten syndrome, and the battle grew even harder. One by one, her siblings lost their fight. But Piku held on. Through every feeding, every treatment, and every moment of care, she chose to stay.

Piku now thrives in a loving home. Healthy, safe, and full of life.

Kitten Survival Fight

One rainy evening, a call came about a bull in terrible pain. His back was covered in deep maggot-infested wounds, and one of his legs was broken. He was suffering, scared, and in urgent need of help.

We acted quickly. Reaching there he was carefully closed inside a nearby ground, and local residents were asked to keep their distance so he would not panic. Every second counted. Calls were made to the gaushala, urgently requesting an ambulance and a team of catchers.

Even though injured, he fought with all his strength. He ran despite his broken leg and wounds, bucking and charging at anyone who came near. Catchers struggled to keep up, and each moment reminded us of his fierce will to survive. After a tense, exhausting, and emotional effort, he was finally caught and safely loaded into the ambulance.

Today, he lives at Dhyan Foundation, healed, cared for, and surrounded by compassion.

Bull Rescue Mission

One case that stayed with us was a dog suffering from Canine TVT, a contagious tumour that spreads through close contact and, if left untreated, can slowly take over the body. He was weak, uncomfortable, and at risk of the disease worsening with time.

What made this rescue possible was the bond he shared with his feeder. Because of that trust, and our partnership with the feeder, the dog could be treated on site without causing him fear or distress. It was the beginning of a long and patient journey.

Every week, he was taken for his treatment. His diet was carefully monitored on location, ensuring he received the strength his body needed to heal. Step by step, week after week, he showed resilience. The tumour began to shrink, and hope slowly replaced worry.

After six weeks of consistent treatment and care, the tumour completely cleared. Today, he is healthy, comfortable, and back to living his life with ease.

TVT Treatment Journey

Found weak and battling parvovirus, this dog was fighting a life-threatening illness. With the risk of infection, shelters could not admit him, leaving him with nowhere to go.

With our guidance, his caregiver kept him safely isolated, as he struggled through days with little strength and only medicated drips to keep him going. For seven days, our van arrived without fail, taking him to a private vet for treatment, each visit a small step in his fight to survive.

Slowly, the virus began to fade, and strength returned. What once felt uncertain turned into hope.

Today, he stands healthy and strong, wagging his tail.

A tiny puppy named Shiva was found after a road accident, left injured and unable to move. The impact had caused a traumatic abdominal hernia, where the muscle wall had torn and his intestines had pushed through beneath the skin. Fragile and in pain, he could not have survived without immediate care.

The case was shared in the Trailblazer WhatsApp group by a concerned member, and we stepped in to rescue him. We then coordinated with veterinarians, NGOs, and shelter homes to ensure he received the treatment he needed, including a necessary surgery to repair the hernia. One of our volunteers opened their home to foster Shiva during those critical days, giving him warmth and safety. His journey was slow, with careful monitoring, medication, and constant support guiding him back to strength.

With time, Shiva began to heal. The pain reduced, his body grew stronger, and his spirit slowly returned. When he was finally ready, we took him back to his original area, hoping he could return to his pack. But after forty-five days, the pack no longer accepted him, leaving him without a place on the streets he once knew.

We had no choice but to step in once again. His story was shared within our network, and through our community, we found a virtual parent to support his care, and an NGO that welcomed him into their farm. Today, Shiva lives a life of safety and love, far removed from the accident that once defined his beginning.

Our Stories

Found weak and battling parvovirus, this dog faced a life-threatening illness. Shelters couldn’t admit him due to the risk of infection. With guidance from our team, his caregiver safely isolated him, and our ambulance transported him daily for treatment. Today, he happily wags his tail.

Piku is the lone survivor of her litter, dumped at a market with the deathly fading kitten syndrome. With round-the-clock medical attention and loving care from a Trailblazer volunteer foster family, she is nurtured back to health. Today, Piku thrives in a happy, loving home.

Found injured and unable to walk, Bruno lay on the roadside for hours. One call, and our ambulance reached him. Today, he runs again.

A litter of five tiny pups was left to survive on streets alone when their mother suddenly stopped feeding. Only three survived. A kind couple rescued them and called Trailblazer. Our van took them for vet visits, regular treatments, and vaccinations, helping the little ones grow stronger each day. When the healthiest pup was ready, we matched him with a loving family. Today, he thrives in his new home, safe and cared.

Our Purpose

Now Is the Time to Act

Mormugao is growing at pace, new roads, new buildings, new energy. But in that growth, street animals are being pushed aside, forced onto faster roads and harsher lives. Injured, unwell, often unseen, they wait for care that may never come. Shelters are full, help is limited, and the cycle continues, more animals on the streets, more distress, more conflict.

And yet, this can change.

With timely, humane care, treatment where they are, vaccination, and ethical birth control, we can restore balance. With our ambulance and trained paravet, and a veterinarian onboard, every rescue can become a true, life-saving intervention.

Speaking of Volunteering

Sponsors and supporters share their love of helping animals

“There are so many people living in poverty all around the world and you may not be able to help all of them. But I have seen how sponsoring just one person has brought a life-changing hope to his life.”

Volunteer

“I have so much enjoyed being a sponsor for many years. The gratitude and love and letters I receive from children and family warms and touches my heart.”

Volunteer

“We would encourage anybody to sponsor, it’s so easy to spend £28 a month on coffees, magazines and treats without really thinking about it. But for the same cost each month you could change animal`s life.”
